Force modesetting option. Modify the following grub config line to include modeset: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="loglevel=3 nvidia-drm.modeset=1" Your config line may look different, just make sure modeset is included in this line. Edit /etc/gdm/custom.conf and make sure the line about wayland is commented:#WaylandEnable=falsesystemd no work. lightdm wasnt starting at boot so i tried switching back to gdm, gdm wont start at boot either anymore. basically my only option right now is to sign in with the terminal which id rather not. dont even know where to start since i couldnt really find much on google. The solution is the same as above: Prevent /usr/lib/gdm-disable-wayland from running upon nvidia module loading. Notice that GDM on Wayland will no longer work once /usr/lib/gdm-disable-wayland has run. This is because WaylandEnable=false has been written into /run/gdm/custom.conf, which overrides /etc/gdm/custom.conf. A first step toward wayland integration is getting GDM to manage wayland based user sessions in addition to the existing X based user sessions it already supports. For simplicitly, GDM should be changed to support this before the login screen itself is re-engineered to run a wayland compositor.Using no nvidia drivers, the regular nouveau and xorg drivers or the xorg-edgers or oibaf ppa lets me run the system, but without having any hardware acceleration. I've upgraded to 17.10 and I can't seem to get the option in gdm to run a wayland session. I've got "Gnome on Xorg" or "Ubuntu on Xorg" options. Is this related? I'd love to know how to fix this.
